Edward Clariss, known as The Rival, is a speedster villain featured in The CW's Arrowverse TV show, The Flash.
Clariss, a former colleague of Jay Garrick (the Flash of Earth-3), sought to recreate the original Flash's speed formula to become a speedster himself. He believed he deserved the recognition Garrick received and became consumed by jealousy and resentment.
In the altered timeline of "Flashpoint", Clariss was the primary speedster hero instead of the Flash. After Barry Allen restores the original timeline, Clariss is erased from existence, only to later be summoned by Alchemy.
The Rival first appears in the episode "Paradox," in Season 3 of The Flash.
