Rick Deckard is the protagonist of the science fiction film *Blade Runner* (1982), portrayed by Harrison Ford. He reappears in *Blade Runner 2049* (2017), also played by Ford.
Deckard is a "Blade Runner," a specialized police officer tasked with hunting down and "retiring" (killing) rogue replicants, bio-engineered beings virtually indistinguishable from humans. He is initially presented as a cynical and weary ex-Blade Runner called back into service.
His work forces him to confront ethical questions about the nature of humanity and the rights of replicants, especially as he develops a relationship with a replicant named Rachael.
