Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr. (born January 20, 1930) is an American former astronaut, engineer, and fighter pilot. He's best known for being one of the first two humans to land on the Moon.
Aldrin earned a Doctorate of Science in Astronautics from MIT and was selected by NASA in 1963 as part of Group 3. He flew in space on Gemini 12 in 1966, setting a new record for Extravehicular Activity (EVA).
On July 20, 1969, as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 11, Aldrin followed Neil Armstrong onto the lunar surface, famously spending over two hours exploring and collecting samples. He retired from NASA in 1971.
Since leaving NASA, Aldrin has written several books, advocated for space exploration, and remained a prominent figure in the space community. He's received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to science and humanity.
