Sandor Clegane, known as The Hound, first appears in the TV show Game of Thrones, during the first season.
He serves as a personal bodyguard to Prince Joffrey Baratheon, exhibiting ruthless efficiency and unquestioning loyalty, though he harbors disdain for the aristocracy.
Scarred by his older brother, Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, in childhood, Sandor develops a fear of fire. He becomes disillusioned with the brutality of service, eventually deserting during the Battle of Blackwater Bay.
Later, he travels across Westeros with Arya Stark, developing a complex and begrudging relationship with her. He attempts to ransom her but fails.
