Robert Baratheon is a key character in HBO's *Game of Thrones*, first appearing in the series premiere, "Winter Is Coming." He is the King of the Seven Kingdoms at the start of the story.
Robert rose to power by leading a rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty, overthrowing the "Mad King" Aerys II Targaryen. This rebellion, known as Robert's Rebellion, was sparked by the alleged abduction of his betrothed, Lyanna Stark, by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
Despite his victory and ascension to the throne, Robert is depicted as a man burdened by the responsibilities of kingship. He prefers hunting, feasting, and drinking to ruling. His reign is characterized by extravagance, debt, and political intrigue.
