The White Violin is a character primarily known from the Dark Horse Comics series, The Umbrella Academy, created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Originally introduced as Vanya Hargreeves, she is one of seven children adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a wealthy industrialist, who intended to train them as superheroes.

Vanya, unlike her siblings, initially appears to possess no superpowers and is ostracized as the "ordinary" one. She is highly skilled in violin and publishes an autobiography detailing her feelings of isolation from her family. This book stirs conflict and is used against her.

It is later revealed that Vanya is, in fact, the most powerful of the Hargreeves children. Her powers, related to sound manipulation and energy projection, were suppressed by Sir Reginald due to their destructive potential. Discovering her true abilities and manipulated by others, she transforms into the destructive White Violin, becoming a significant antagonist in the series, threatening to destroy the world.

Her arc revolves around themes of repressed power, identity, and the consequences of emotional manipulation. While initially perceived as a victim, her actions as the White Violin force her and her siblings to confront the devastating potential of unchecked power and familial dysfunction.
