Originally, scientist Alec Holland was working on a bio-restorative formula in the swamps of Louisiana. Sabotage led to an explosion, engulfing Holland in flames. He fled into the swamp where the chemical formula, combined with the swamp's flora and fauna, transformed him into the Swamp Thing.
