Game of Thrones

Jeor Mormont, often called the Old Bear, was the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch in HBO's Game of Thrones. He was a member of House Mormont, a noble house from Bear Island in the North.

Prior to joining the Night's Watch, Jeor was the Lord of Bear Island. He abdicated his position in favor of his son, Jorah Mormont, after Jorah's actions threatened to bring shame to their house. He took the black and journeyed to the Wall.

As Lord Commander, Jeor was a stern but just leader, dedicated to the Watch's purpose of defending the realm from threats beyond the Wall. He recognized Jon Snow's potential and took him as his personal steward, mentoring him in the ways of the Night's Watch and leadership.

Mormont led a great ranging beyond the Wall in search of Benjen Stark and to investigate the growing threat of the White Walkers. He was killed during a mutiny at Craster's Keep. His wisdom and experience were deeply missed by the Night's Watch, particularly Jon Snow.
