Cliegg Lars was a Tatooine moisture farmer and stepfather to Anakin Skywalker. He purchased Shmi Skywalker from Gardulla the Hutt, freeing her from slavery and eventually marrying her.
He lived a simple life managing his farm and caring for Shmi until she was kidnapped by Tusken Raiders. Driven by his love for Shmi, Cliegg organized a search party, but they were unsuccessful.
During the search, Cliegg suffered injuries that left him unable to walk, requiring a repulsorlift chair for mobility. He never gave up hope of finding Shmi alive.
His son, Owen Lars, and daughter-in-law, Beru Whitesun Lars, remained with him on the farm. When Anakin returned to Tatooine seeking his mother, Cliegg informed him of her kidnapping and the dangers of the Tusken Raiders.
Sadly, Cliegg never saw Shmi again. She died from her injuries sustained by the Tusken Raiders. While a relatively minor character, Cliegg's story highlights the harsh realities of life on Tatooine and the bonds of family.
