Optimus Prime is a central character in the Transformers franchise, typically depicted as the leader of the Autobots. He is a sentient robot, a Cybertronian, originating from the planet Cybertron. His primary mission is to protect life and freedom, often clashing with the Decepticons and their leader, Megatron.

Prior to becoming Optimus Prime, he was known as Orion Pax, a humble archivist. He was reformatted and upgraded into a Prime by the Matrix of Leadership (or a similar source of power, depending on the continuity) after witnessing Megatron's betrayal and the beginning of the Autobot-Decepticon war.

Optimus Prime is renowned for his unwavering sense of justice, compassion, and selflessness. He believes in the potential for good in all beings, even his enemies. He often transforms into a truck, typically a semi-trailer truck, reflecting his role as a transport and leader. He wields the Matrix of Leadership and various energy weapons, including his iconic ion blaster.
