Biography:
Dr. Mid-Nite is a superhero identity shared by multiple characters in DC Comics. The original, Dr. Charles McNider, first appeared in All-American Comics #25 (April 1941).
McNider was a brilliant surgeon who was blinded by an exploding grenade while performing an emergency operation. However, he discovered he could see perfectly well in total darkness, and even possessed enhanced vision in dim light. He developed special infrared goggles to see in daylight and began his career as a nocturnal vigilante.
Dr. Mid-Nite often used "blackout bombs" that emitted opaque smoke, blinding his enemies while allowing him to see. He was a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and detective, and was frequently aided by his trained owl, Hooty.
