Dementors are non-beings featured prominently in the Harry Potter universe, first appearing in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. They are among the guards of the wizard prison, Azkaban, until after Voldemort's return.

Dementors are described as cloaked figures that drain happiness and hope from anyone near them, leaving only despair. Their most terrifying attack is the Dementor's Kiss, which sucks out a person's soul, leaving them an empty shell.

They are largely unaffected by most magic but can be repelled by the Patronus Charm, a powerful defensive spell that conjures a positive energy guardian.
