Holly Granger is the second character to take on the mantle of Hawk in the DC Universe, following her older brother, Hank Granger. After Hank's death, Holly inherited the Hawk powers from the Hawk and Dove entity, becoming the new avatar of War.

Unlike Hank, who was prone to aggression and impulsiveness, Holly initially struggled to control her powers and exhibited a more brutal and violent approach to crimefighting. This led to internal conflict as she grappled with the Hawk's inherent nature and the responsibility of upholding justice.

Holly has partnered with various iterations of Dove, including Dawn Granger, the original Dove. Their dynamic is often characterized by a struggle for balance, with Holly's aggressive tendencies contrasted by Dove's pacifistic nature. She has been associated with teams like the Titans, though not as consistently as other heroes.

Later storylines have explored the complexities of Holly's powers and her connection to the Lord of War. She has shown a capacity for growth and change, attempting to temper her violent impulses and find a more balanced approach to her role as Hawk, even as the influence of the Lord of War continues to linger.
