Metropolitan Captain, also known as Captain Metropolis, is a fictional character published by DC Comics. He first appeared in *Before Watchmen: Minutemen* #1 in 2012.
Born Nelson Gardner, he was a founding member of the Minutemen, a team of costumed adventurers in the *Watchmen* universe. He operated during the 1940s and 1960s.
His powers included enhanced strength, speed, and stamina, making him a formidable crime fighter. He often served as the team's leader and public face.
Despite his heroic persona, Gardner harbored hidden complexities, including a secret homosexuality which he struggled to reconcile with the social norms of the time. He attempted to control who was or wasn't in the group to uphold an ideal image, even attempting to have the Hooded Justice removed.
