Wargs are a species of evil wolf-like creatures in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. They first appear in *The Hobbit* during Bilbo Baggins' journey with Thorin Oakenshield's company of dwarves.
These ferocious beasts often acted as mounts and allies to the Orcs. In *The Hobbit*, a pack of Wargs joins a band of Orcs in hunting down Thorin's company, eventually forcing the dwarves to seek refuge in trees, ultimately leading to their rescue by the Eagles.
Wargs are portrayed as savage and intelligent, capable of communicating with Orcs and acting in coordinated attacks. They are a significant threat in the wild lands of Middle-earth.
