Mirkwood Elves, also known as Silvan Elves, are a group of Elves inhabiting the vast forest of Mirkwood in Middle Earth.
They are descended from the Nandor, Elves who refused the summons to Valinor and remained in Middle Earth. Over time, they mingled with Avari Elves and developed their own culture, distinct from the High Elves of the West.
Their first appearance in the narrative of *The Lord of the Rings* is during Bilbo Baggins' journey through Mirkwood in *The Hobbit*, encountering the Elvenking Thranduil and his wood-elves. They are initially presented as somewhat suspicious and protective of their realm. During the Third Age, Thranduil’s kingdom came under frequent attack.
