The Lord of the Rings

Elendil, whose name means "Elf-friend," was a pivotal figure in the history of Middle-earth. Born in Númenor, he was a descendant of the lords of Andúnië, who remained faithful to the Valar despite the growing corruption of the island kingdom.

As Númenor succumbed to Ar-Pharazôn's ambition to conquer Valinor, Elendil, forewarned by his father Amandil, prepared for the inevitable destruction. He gathered his family and followers, and with nine ships loaded with artifacts and the Palantíri, he sailed eastward to escape the Downfall.

Landing in Middle-earth, Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anárion, founded the realms of Gondor and Arnor. Elendil became the High King of both kingdoms, ruling from Annúminas in Arnor. He allied with Gil-galad, the High King of the Elves, to form the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.

Elendil fell in the Battle of Dagorlad, facing Sauron himself. His sword, Narsil, was broken beneath him. He was a strong and noble leader whose legacy profoundly shaped the future of Middle-earth, inspiring hope and resistance against the Shadow.
