Akira Kogane, often known as Keith Kogane, is a central character in the animated television series Voltron: Legendary Defender. He is initially introduced as a lone wolf type, a student at the Galaxy Garrison who possesses exceptional piloting skills but struggles with authority.

Keith's impulsiveness and rebellious nature lead to his expulsion from the Garrison. He is later recruited to become the pilot of the Black Lion, the head of Voltron, due to his strong connection to it and his inherent leadership qualities. His mixed Galra heritage, initially unknown to him, becomes a significant plot point.

Throughout the series, Keith grapples with his identity and his connection to both human and Galra cultures. He briefly leaves Team Voltron to join the Blade of Marmora, a secret Galra resistance group, before eventually returning to a leadership role within the team.

His character arc focuses on self-discovery, overcoming internal conflict, and learning to balance his loyalty to his friends with his Galra heritage, ultimately becoming a crucial element in the fight against the Galra Empire and its leader, Zarkon.
