Biography:
Professor Quirinus Quirrell first appears in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as the nervous and stuttering Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Throughout the book, Quirrell seems timid and easily frightened, claiming to be terrified of his subject matter. He wears a turban, which he claims is to protect him from a vampire he encountered in Romania.
It is eventually revealed that Quirrell is not simply a weak wizard, but is in fact serving Lord Voldemort. Voldemort, in a weakened state, is sharing Quirrell's body, with Voldemort's face visible on the back of Quirrell's head, hidden beneath the turban. Quirrell is ultimately defeated when Harry Potter's touch burns him due to the protective magic his mother cast when sacrificing herself to save him.
