The Hobbit

Bofur is one of the thirteen dwarves who accompanies Thorin Oakenshield on the Quest to Erebor in J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Hobbit*. A jovial and good-natured dwarf, Bofur is known for his love of food, particularly pork pies and mince pies.

Bofur, along with his brother Bombur and half-brother Bifur, are not of Durin's line, and therefore not directly related to the royal lineage of the dwarves. They join the company out of a shared interest in adventure and a promise of a share of the treasure reclaimed from the dragon Smaug.

He is portrayed as somewhat less serious and more prone to humorous observations than some of his companions. Bofur doesn't participate in battles as much as some of the other dwarves, tending instead to provide support and levity. He is captured by wood-elves along with the rest of the party, and endures the hardship in Mirkwood.

Following the defeat of Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies, Bofur lives in Erebor, sharing in its prosperity and rebuilding. He is a memorable member of Thorin's company, contributing to the story with his cheerful demeanor.
