Nardole, portrayed by Matt Lucas, is a recurring character in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, primarily appearing alongside the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi). He is initially introduced as a simpleton rescued by the Doctor on the human colony ship Harmony and Redemption, and later re-engineered by River Song.
Following River's death in "The Husbands of River Song," the Doctor tasks Nardole with guarding the vault beneath St. Jerome's Monastery, promising to stay on Earth for that purpose. Nardole’s knowledge of technology and practical skills prove invaluable to the Doctor, making him a capable companion.
