Rusty Griswold is a fictional character appearing in the National Lampoon's Vacation film series. He is the son of Clark and Ellen Griswold, and brother to Audrey.
The character of Rusty has been portrayed by multiple actors throughout the series. Anthony Michael Hall originated the role in the first film, National Lampoon's Vacation (1983). He was followed by Jason Lively in National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985), Johnny Galecki in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), and Ethan Embry in Vegas Vacation (1997).
In the 2015 sequel/reboot, Vacation, Rusty is played by Ed Helms. This film depicts him as a grown man with his own family, attempting to recreate the original cross-country road trip with his wife and sons.
Across the different portrayals, Rusty is generally depicted as a teenager or young adult who often finds himself embarrassed or annoyed by his family's often-chaotic vacation adventures.
