Jaap Stam is a retired Dutch professional football player, widely considered one of the best defenders of his generation. He primarily played as a centre-back.
He first rose to prominence in the late 1990s, notably playing for PSV Eindhoven before joining Manchester United in 1998. At Manchester United, wearing the #6 shirt, he was a key figure in their treble-winning season of 1999.
