Kitarō, created by Shigeru Mizuki, is the titular character of the long-running manga and anime series GeGeGe no Kitarō. He is a yōkai (spirit monster) boy, born from a deceased pregnant woman who was buried in a coffin. Kitarō emerged from the womb fully formed, though with only one eye.

Living in a world bridging the human and spirit realms, Kitarō dedicates himself to protecting humans from malevolent yōkai. He acts as a mediator, attempting to maintain balance between both worlds. His appearance is distinctive, featuring unruly hair covering his empty eye socket, a chanchanko vest, and wooden geta sandals.

He is not alone in his adventures. Key allies include his undead father, Medama-Oyaji, who exists as a sentient eyeball residing on Kitarō's shoulder, and a variety of other friendly yōkai like Nezumi-Otoko. Kitarō's abilities include his powerful hair, sharp claws, and the ability to shoot electricity. He is a generally benevolent character, though he can be stern with those who disrupt the peace he seeks to maintain.
