Weapon-X, also known as Subject PG, is a designation applied to several individuals experimented on within the Weapon X Program in Marvel Comics. The most well-known is James Howlett, better known as Wolverine. He first appeared as Wolverine in The Incredible Hulk #181 (November 1974).
The Weapon X program subjected Wolverine to intense physical and psychological trauma, most notably bonding his skeleton with adamantium. This process amplified his already existing mutant healing factor and made his bones virtually indestructible.
The program's goal was to create the ultimate super-soldier. While Wolverine escaped and his memories were suppressed, the adamantium bonding and resulting rage left him with a feral and unpredictable nature that plagued him for years.
The Weapon X designation is often associated with mind control, genetic modification, and cybernetic enhancements, depending on the subject and continuity.
