Turtle Man, also known as Earl Nasmith, is a relatively obscure DC Comics character. He first appeared in *Detective Comics* #235 in 1956, created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff.

Earl Nasmith was a petty crook who gained his unusual abilities through a freak accident. While attempting to rob a museum, he was exposed to a radioactive isotope which drastically altered his physiology, granting him turtle-like powers.

These powers included a slowed metabolism, greatly increased lifespan, enhanced durability, and the ability to withdraw his head and limbs into his shell for protection. He also gained retractable claws. Although his powers made him resilient, he was depicted as being rather slow and dim-witted.

Turtle Man primarily served as a minor antagonist, often facing Batman and Robin. He was typically portrayed as a comical and easily defeated villain, more of a nuisance than a serious threat to Gotham City.
