Biography:
The Man in Black is a key character in the HBO science fiction western TV show, Westworld. His first appearance is in the pilot episode of the series.
He is initially presented as a ruthless and enigmatic guest in the Westworld theme park. He's been visiting the park for thirty years, indulging in violent and sadistic acts against the android "hosts."
As the series progresses, his true identity is revealed to be William, the eventual executive director of Delos Destinations, the company that owns and operates Westworld. His motivations become clearer as viewers learn about a past trauma in the park and a desire to uncover a deeper game hidden within Westworld, beyond the programmed narratives.
The character is portrayed by both Jimmi Simpson as young William and Ed Harris as the older Man in Black.
