Biography:
Danbo, also known as Cardbo, is a cardboard robot character conceived by Japanese artist Kiyohiko Azuma. Danbo first appeared in chapter 28 of the *Yotsuba&!* manga series.
The Danbo character is essentially a costume worn by a young girl named Miura Hayasaka in the manga. Miura fashioned the boxy outfit as a school project, aiming to imitate the appearance of a robot.
Danbo's design is intentionally simple, resembling corrugated cardboard boxes taped together. The face features two large, round eyes and a small, rectangular mouth. The costume's eyes light up when Miura inserts coins into a slot on the side.
Despite its origins as a simple costume, Danbo has become a popular internet meme and subject for photography. The character's stoic expression and minimalist design have resonated with people worldwide, leading to its widespread adoption in artistic and humorous contexts. Due to its success, the character is now available as merchandise, from figures to plushies.
