Storm Shadow, whose real name is Thomas S. Arashikage, is a prominent character in the G.I. Joe universe. He is best known for his skills as a ninja and his complex relationship with Snake Eyes.
Storm Shadow first appears in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #21 (March 1984). He is initially portrayed as an enemy, serving as Cobra Commander's ninja bodyguard. He and Snake Eyes were blood brothers who trained together as ninjas under their uncle, the Hard Master.
Later, Storm Shadow's motivations become more ambiguous, and he alternates between allegiance to Cobra and assisting G.I. Joe, especially Snake Eyes. His shifts in alliance are often tied to his search for the truth behind the Hard Master's death, a mystery that deeply haunts him. He becomes a member of G.I. Joe on several occasions. He is a master of several martial arts and extremely agile. He specializes in stealth, infiltration, and the use of bladed weapons.
