Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century. He developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics, alongside quantum mechanics.
Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. This was pivotal in establishing quantum theory.
Beyond physics, Einstein is known for his mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2, dubbed "the world's most famous equation." He also published over 300 scientific papers and over 150 non-scientific works.
A vocal advocate for social justice and pacifism, Einstein later emigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen. He warned President Roosevelt about the potential for Nazi Germany to develop atomic weapons.
