The Host, also known as Wanderer, is a fictional character primarily known from Stephenie Meyer's science fiction novel, The Host (2008). She exists as both a soul (or alien life form) and a human being, embodied in the human body of Melanie Stryder.

Wanderer is a soul from a species that travels the galaxy, inhabiting bodies on different planets to bring peace and order. Her initial mission on Earth is to suppress the rebellious human spirit. She is implanted into Melanie, but Melanie's strong will resists, creating a unique co-existence within the same body.

Throughout the story, Wanderer learns to understand and empathize with humanity through Melanie's memories and emotions. She experiences love, loss, and the desire for freedom. Her journey involves navigating the conflicting desires of Melanie and her own species, ultimately questioning the morality of the souls' actions. This internal conflict leads her to choose a different path than her intended purpose.
