Biography:
Stephen Ray Perry, known professionally as Steve Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He's best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Journey during their most commercially successful period, from 1977 to 1987, and again from 1995 to 1998.
Born in Hanford, California, Perry joined Journey after they had been searching for a vocalist with a strong, melodic voice. His addition helped propel them to international stardom with hits like "Don't Stop Believin'," "Open Arms," and "Separate Ways." These songs, characterized by Perry's powerful vocals and the band's polished sound, became staples of arena rock.
Perry left Journey in the late 1980s due to health concerns and internal band conflicts. He pursued a successful solo career, releasing albums like "Street Talk" and "For the Love of Strange Medicine." In 2018, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey. He continues to release music, including his 2018 album, "Traces."
