The Hobbit

Lake-town Guard, though unnamed in J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Hobbit*, is a minor character serving as a watchman and member of the armed forces of Esgaroth, also known as Lake-town.

His primary role is guarding the town's entrances and participating in its defense. He is portrayed as a practical and cautious individual, concerned with the safety of his community. During the arrival of Thorin's company of dwarves, he initially expresses skepticism and unease, reflecting the general mistrust of outsiders held by some Lake-town inhabitants.

Despite his initial reservations, the Lake-town Guard ultimately carries out his duty by informing the Master of Lake-town of the dwarves' arrival. He is then involved in their escort into the town. He can be seen to represent the everyday inhabitants of Lake-town, whose lives are impacted by the events surrounding the dwarves and the dragon Smaug.
