Thorin Oakenshield is a key character in the film *The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey*, the first movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, appearing in 2012. He is the proud and somewhat stubborn leader of a company of Dwarves.
Thorin is driven by a desire to reclaim his ancestral homeland, Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, which was seized by the dragon Smaug many years prior. This event left Thorin and his people exiled and scattered.
