Boromir is a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, *The Lord of the Rings*, set in Middle-earth. The first part of the *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy is titled *The Fellowship of the Ring*, and this is the first book in which Boromir appears.
He is the son of Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, and brother to Faramir. Boromir is a valiant and skilled warrior, deeply devoted to his city and people.
Driven by a desire to protect Gondor from the growing shadow of Sauron, Boromir initially joins the Fellowship of the Ring. He seeks to take the One Ring to use its power to defend Gondor.
Ultimately, Boromir succumbs to the Ring's corrupting influence, attempting to seize it from Frodo Baggins. He redeems himself somewhat before his death, defending Merry and Pippin from Orcs.
