Biography:
Théoden is a character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, most notably featured in The Lord of the Rings.
He first appears in The Two Towers, the second volume of The Lord of the Rings, as the King of Rohan. At the start of the War of the Ring, Théoden is an aging and weakened ruler, heavily influenced by his chief advisor, Gríma Wormtongue.
Wormtongue, secretly in the service of Saruman, has poisoned Théoden's mind and body, leaving him unable to effectively govern and defend his kingdom. Gandalf the White arrives and breaks Wormtongue's hold, restoring Théoden to his rightful strength and spirit.
Théoden then leads the Rohirrim in defense of Gondor, fighting bravely at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where he is ultimately slain.
