Gríma Wormtongue is a character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, appearing prominently in The Lord of the Rings. He first appears in The Two Towers.
He serves as a key antagonist in the realm of Rohan, acting as a chief counselor to King Théoden. However, Gríma is secretly in the service of Saruman the White, and uses his position to weaken Théoden, poisoning his mind and sapping his strength through subtle manipulation and carefully chosen words.
Gríma's influence over Théoden nearly leads to the downfall of Rohan. He is depicted as a slimy, deceitful character, motivated by a desire for power and a twisted affection for Théoden's niece, Éowyn. His actions are ultimately exposed by Gandalf, who heals Théoden and restores him to his rightful strength. Following the events at Helm's Deep, Gríma follows Saruman, and eventually murders him.
