Helmut Zemo, often referred to as Baron Zemo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), first appears in the movie Captain America: Civil War. He is portrayed as a Sokovian man seeking revenge for the loss of his family during the Battle of Sokovia, an event directly caused by the actions of the Avengers in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Unlike some other iterations of the character, the MCU's Zemo lacks superpowers. Instead, he relies on his intellect, strategic planning, and extensive knowledge of espionage and combat to achieve his goals. His primary objective in Civil War is to dismantle the Avengers from within, exploiting pre-existing tensions and uncovering information to manipulate key figures such as Captain America and Iron Man.

Following his imprisonment, Zemo resurfaces in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Initially, he's needed due to his knowledge and connections useful in tracking down super-soldiers. While still possessing his manipulative nature and holding anti-superhero views, he forms a reluctant alliance with Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), showcasing a complex character arc. This version of Zemo also displays a surprising fondness for music and dance.
