Android 16 is a powerful, artificial human character in the Dragon Ball Z anime series. Designed by Dr. Gero (also known as Android 20), Android 16 differs significantly from his counterparts, Androids 17 and 18, in both personality and purpose.
First appearing during the Android Saga, Android 16 is initially presented as a silent and inactive android. He is activated alongside Androids 17 and 18 and is revealed to possess immense strength and a gentle, nature-loving disposition. Unlike the other androids, 16 has no desire for destruction or violence.
Android 16's primary objective is to eliminate Goku, a directive instilled by Dr. Gero. However, his pacifistic nature and his growing bond with the Z Fighters, particularly Gohan, lead him to oppose Cell. Ultimately, Android 16 sacrifices himself in an attempt to encourage Gohan to unleash his hidden power and defeat Cell.
