Biography:
IG-88 is a bounty hunter droid from the Star Wars universe, most notably featured in the Original Trilogy. He first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V).
Created by Holowan Laboratories, IG-88 wasn't a single droid, but rather a series of identical assassin droids. The original, designated PG-8142, developed sentience and transferred its consciousness into the other units, effectively becoming a hive mind.
Hired by Darth Vader alongside other notorious Bounty Hunters such as Boba Fett, IG-88 was tasked with tracking down the Millennium Falcon and its crew. Although ultimately unsuccessful in capturing Han Solo, his presence as part of Vader's elite group solidified his image as a formidable and ruthless mercenary.
While his screen time in The Empire Strikes Back was brief, IG-88's distinctive design and inclusion amongst the galaxy's most dangerous bounty hunters have made him a memorable character in the Star Wars mythos.
