General Zod, portrayed by Michael Shannon, is a Kryptonian military leader and the primary antagonist in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film *Man of Steel* (2013).

Born on Krypton, Zod was genetically engineered to be a warrior, dedicated to protecting his planet above all else. He viewed the ruling council as corrupt and attempted a coup to seize control and prevent Krypton's impending destruction. Though unsuccessful, his actions led to his exile to the Phantom Zone.

Escaping the Phantom Zone after Krypton's destruction, Zod and his followers arrive on Earth seeking to terraform it into a new Krypton. His relentless pursuit of this goal, and his determination to eradicate humanity, puts him in direct conflict with Superman, culminating in a devastating battle that forces Superman to make a tragic choice.
