Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose full name is Mitth'raw'nuruodo, is a prominent Imperial officer in the Star Wars universe. He is a Chiss male known for his brilliant strategic mind and appreciation for art, which he uses to understand his enemies.
Thrawn first appeared in Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel *Heir to the Empire*, the first book in what became known as the *Thrawn Trilogy* of *Star Wars* Legends novels. The books are no longer considered Canon.
He was reintroduced into the official *Star Wars* canon in the *Star Wars Rebels* animated TV show, voiced by Lars Mikkelsen. Thrawn rose through the ranks of the Imperial Navy due to his tactical prowess, eventually becoming a Grand Admiral.
Grand Admiral Thrawn continued to appear in the new canon as part of multiple *Star Wars* books.
