However, a significant twist revealed that the "Mondo" who had been with Generation X was actually a sentient clone created by Black Tom Cassidy. The real Mondo was later discovered to be living a peaceful life in the Pacific Islands, unaware of his clone's activities.

Despite the revelation, the original Mondo eventually joined the New Mutants, seeking to learn more about his powers and his past. He continues to struggle with his identity and the legacy of his clone, while striving to use his abilities for good.
