Noriko Ashida, code-named Surge, is a mutant character in Marvel Comics. She first appeared in 2004's New Mutants (vol. 2) #8.

Born in Japan, Noriko possesses mutant abilities related to electricity. Her primary power is the absorption and redirection of electrical energy. However, this ability is uncontrolled and requires the use of specialized gauntlets to regulate the flow and prevent harm to herself and others. These gauntlets also amplify her speed, reflexes, and strength.

Surge was a student at the Xavier Institute and later became a prominent member of the New Mutants squad. She is known for her impulsive nature, strong will, and independence. While initially resistant to authority, she evolved into a capable leader.

Despite her powers and training, Surge's lack of control over her abilities presents an ongoing challenge. She has grappled with feelings of isolation and a fear of hurting those around her, leading to a complex and compelling character arc within the X-Men universe.
