RX-79 Gundam, more formally known as the RX-78-2 Gundam, is a fictional mobile suit from the 1979 anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam. It is the titular and primary mecha piloted by Amuro Ray in the Earth Federation's fight against the Principality of Zeon.

Developed as part of Project V, the Gundam was a revolutionary mobile suit, significantly outperforming Zeon's Zaku II. Its features included a beam rifle, beam saber, and Gundarium alloy armor, providing superior firepower and defense.
