Jaime Lannister first appears in *Game of Thrones* episode 1, "Winter Is Coming." He is a knight from House Lannister, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Westeros. Known as the "Kingslayer," he earned this moniker for killing the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen, whom he was sworn to protect as a member of the Kingsguard.

Initially portrayed as arrogant and amoral, Jaime is in an incestuous relationship with his twin sister, Cersei. This relationship is a central driver of many conflicts in the series. As the series progresses, Jaime undergoes significant character development. He loses his sword hand, forcing him to re-evaluate his skills and identity.

Jaime's honor and sense of duty are challenged, leading him to question his loyalties to his family, particularly Cersei. He strives to redeem himself and become a better man, developing complex relationships with characters like Brienne of Tarth.
