Meryn Trant is a knight of the Kingsguard in the HBO television series *Game of Thrones*. He is a brutal and unprincipled man known for his loyalty to the Lannister family and his willingness to carry out their orders, no matter how cruel.
He first appears in Season 1, Episode 5, "The Wolf and the Lion", where he is already serving as a member of the Kingsguard under King Robert Baratheon. Throughout the series, Trant is portrayed as a cruel and sadistic character who takes pleasure in inflicting pain.
As part of the Kingsguard, he is sworn to protect the royal family. He is involved in several key events, including the execution of Eddard Stark, and later is sent to Braavos alongside Mace Tyrell to escort Arya Stark back to Westeros, though his mission quickly becomes simply maintaining his own safety while indulging in his cruel nature.
