PlayerUnknown is the alias and in-game avatar used by players in *PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds* (*PUBG*). He isn't a specific character with a backstory provided within the game itself.

Instead, "PlayerUnknown" is a meta-reference to Brendan Greene, the creative director of *PUBG*. Greene previously used the moniker "PlayerUnknown" in his mod work on *ARMA 2* and *ARMA 3*, as well as in his consulting role for *H1Z1: King of the Kill*.
