Animal Man, also known as Buddy Baker, first appeared in Strange Adventures #180 (September 1965).
Initially, he was a relatively straightforward hero who gained his abilities after encountering an alien spacecraft. This encounter granted him the power to mimic the abilities of animals.
The character underwent a significant reinvention in the late 1980s by writer Grant Morrison. This version explored deeper themes of animal rights, environmentalism, and the nature of reality itself.
