Hawkman, in the context of DC Comics' "Blackest Night" storyline, refers to the reanimated corpse of Carter Hall, the Golden Age Hawkman.
Prior to his death, Carter Hall was a prominent member of the Justice Society of America and possessed immense knowledge of Thanagarian lore due to his past lives and alien origins. He was a skilled warrior, wielding Thanagarian weapons such as the Nth metal mace and harnessing the power of his wings for flight.
During "Blackest Night," Carter, along with his wife Hawkgirl, was resurrected as a Black Lantern. Powered by the black power rings of the Black Lantern Corps, he became a grotesque perversion of his former self. His primary mission was to spread death and recruit more members for Nekron's army.
As a Black Lantern, Hawkman wielded the power to drain the emotional energy of the living and regenerate himself through death. He used his intimate knowledge of his former allies to inflict maximum emotional damage, turning his past connections into potent weapons against them.
